Accepted • 2025-09-19 • by roop

Definition

An Active User is a user account that has recently authenticated, initiated a session, performed actions, or otherwise engaged with a system, service, or platform within a defined timeframe. The term is used to distinguish between currently engaged or recently engaged users and those that are inactive, suspended, or dormant. In MSP and IT environments, active users are tracked for licensing, security auditing, capacity planning, and automation targeting.

Prompt Examples

  • Export a report of all active users by site and department.
  • List all active users across all client tenants in the past 7 days.
  • Trigger a password reset workflow for all active users with elevated privileges.
  • Which active users accessed the backup management console yesterday?

  • Correlate activity with licensing, authentication, or policy enforcement data
  • Log all queries and actions for auditing or compliance purposes
  • Query the user directory, session logs, or activity metrics to identify accounts meeting the active criteria
  • Return the list of matching users or perform the requested action on their behalf
